Part of the preparation is to expect power outages, internet outages, cell phone outages, high winds and flooding. Beside other things, make sure you have enough food available that does not need refrigeration, enough water, full gas tank, cash for situations where credit cards do not work, fully charged electronics, especially cell phones; possibly battery backups.
